Stopaq Viscoelastic

 Stopaq Viscoelastic Material

Stopaq Wrappingband

Joint Specialists is pleased to announce that our decades long partnership with Seal for Life Industries is expanding to include the Stopaq product line, effective immediately.  We are bringing in a stock of material this week; but ask your patience in the months ahead as we learn exactly what product and inventory levels are required to support the US market.  As you may know, the Stopaq product line is incredibly versatile with excellent corrosion prevention solutions for many US markets; including O&G, Marine, Downstream, Tank Chime Repair, Cooling Towers, and virtually any market where corrosion prevention and leak sealing are needed.

Adding Stopaq to Joint Specialists' already deep line of corrosion prevention and substrate protection products is going to be a great fit.  Adding this product line to Powercrete J, Powercrete R65/F1, Powercrete R95, DIRAX, WPCT, WPC100M and JSI's own line of BBS bumper materials that are used to protect pipelines during bundled pipeline road bores gives JSI yet another tool in our belt to help our customers solve challenging corrosion problems.

As a starting point, we will stock 13 Stopaq products. We have plans place to expand into the rest of the product line, eventually having most products available for expedited shipping.  Our goal is:  100% of orders shipping out same day (if needed).

If you have an upcoming project where Powercrete, Stopaq, Covalence may apply; please reach out immediately.  In addition, if you will be involved in a bundled road bore; we have the best product on the market for that.  I look forward to hearing from you!

BBS and BBS/CCS Bumper for Bundled Road Bores

BBS and BBS/CCS Bumper for Bundled Road Bores

JSI's BBS system has reached its 10th year of existence!  That is 10 years of protecting lines that will be a part of a bundled directional drill.  10 years of supporting your CP systems to keep space for the current to reach your pipeline 360 degrees around your line.

BBS and BBS/CCS are simple to install, requiring no special tools or training.  All that is really needed is a propane torch with a broad bushy flame and a means to wipe dust and dirt off of the pipeline prior to installation.

The BBS includes as its line item:
  • suitable durometer bumper material pre-cut to length
  • main sleeve to hold bumper in place
  • three inch wide sleeve for added front end protection
  • two part epoxy bonding agent

Bundled Bumper Spacing

Spacing Options for Bundled Bore Bumpers

Nowhere to hide if these bumpers don't work.  In person, the space was clearly visible and the silence of the lines NOT rubbing on one another was deafening.

Here they go.  Bumpers still intact and in the same exact place when they came out of the ground 1500 feet away.

When selecting your bumper spacing, I've seen a number of different philosophies.  First and foremost - it is important to share this disclaimer:  JSI never recommends bumper spacing.  In the first place, there are numerous factors including the flex in the pipe (which will be impacted by OD and wall thickness) then there is the depth and angles of the bore hole.  Because of those things; it is impossible for me to make a recommendation - that is a decision for the end user to make.

But when we look at the multitude of jobs that have used our BBS system, I notice there are a few schools of thought out there.

  1. Some folks are conservative.  They want a bumper every 8-10 feet.  They know how expensive directional drilling is - how expensive their pipe and coating are - and they don't want to take any chances with pipe on pipe damage -- or CP failures.
  2. Some folks seem to choose to put a bumper every 15-20 feet regardless of pipe OD.
  3. Some folks carefully calculate all the factors involved:  pipe flex, bore radius, number of lines in the bundle, etc and they come up with very specific spacing requirements:  as an example I've seen every 25 feet on a 20" line and every 20 feet on an 8" line.
So there are many strategies that our clients have used.  What is your strategy going to be?

Another Successful Bundled Road Bore Project

 Bumpers for Bundled Directional Drills

Joint Specialists is the leader in the bundled directional drilling bumper market.  Having been supplying the market for seven years now; we can say that our system is proven superior to everything else out there in the marketplace. With dozens of projects and more than 70 miles of pipeline, the BBS system has been used to protect pipelines from pipe on pipe collision damage during the pull through - and leave space between the pipelines when they reach their final resting place.  The system is designed to last just as long as the pipeline itself (likely longer).

Here are some photos from our most recent project:

Your typical bundled directional drill right of way!  Three pipelines ready to go.  We've seen this many times with our Road Bore Bumper System (BBS)

A well installed (after training of course) BBS Bumper Sleeve!  The pipe will be heading toward the right when it enters the hole.
